There are several ways to achieve (personal) learning goals. A selection of possibilities: face to face training, webinar, micro learning, e-learning and virtual classroom training. The first and last are compared with each other. Do you need to opt for face to face or virtual classroom training as a L&D/HR department or both? Of course, one does not have to exclude the other. Think of blended learning programs.
In this article I speak specifically about virtual classroom training and not about webinars. Although both are online events, they really differ in design and execution (see the earlier blog: “Is a virtual training not a webinar?“). Two reasons to deploy virtual classroom training.
Travel and accommodation costs are significant cost savings in the deployment of virtual classroom training versus face to face training. No travel back and forth, no car costs, no hotel nights. But much more important for the company are the “hours of absence” of the employee. He/she does not have to be taken out of work all day. Virtual classroom training are short sessions of up to 1 – 1.5 hours. The participant can then pick up his/her work and even better, then apply the scholar immediately in practice.
Adaptive to the market
Depending on what the virtual classroom training is used for, think about skills or knowledge, you can give 12 to 30 people a place in the virtual space. Since the sessions are shorter than in a face to face training, you can train more people in a shorter period of time. This can be useful if, for example, a product requires an immediate update of knowledge for the market or otherwise act of employees. You can then update the whole country directly and in a short period of time. In other words, the adjusting power of a virtual classroom training is great.
